Established in 1955, Linden Oaks has been a renowned leader in special education and disability services, supporting Southern California. This position provides qualified candidates the opportunity to be an active member of students development by working 1:1 and in some cases small groups implementing best practices for communication development, behavioral strategies and academics. As part of the student's team, paraprofessionals will work alongside our teaching faculty and robust therapy teams to implement a comprehensive individualized program for the students we serve. Positions are available for either Full Time or Part Time. The paraprofessional will assist the student in both the classroom and the AM or PM van transportation route for full time positions, classroom hours only for part time positions. Shift is 6:00am to 2:45pm or 8am to 5:30pm; Monday through Friday.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Bachelor degree in education, psychology or a related field preferred. Some positions may require specialized skills such as sign language, bilingual (oral and written) Ability to read, speak, and write in English. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
Assist teachers and/or other certificated staff in operating a classroom or program for special education students. Assist in instructing/tutoring special education students in functional, academic, language, and/or specialized subject areas related to the level of achievement; present lessons as requested, reinforce concepts, answer questions, monitor and check work. Assist in supervising and monitoring students to maintain effective learning and/or safe play/recreational environments. Assist in organizing the work environment; set up and clean up of materials for daily activities; maintain adaptive materials and areas in a neat and orderly condition. Review students' relevant records or reports with the teachers. Support and maintain teacher instruction for documentation and data collection. Support teacher in maintaining classroom strategies (on task behaviors) Use ProAct principles to positively manage behaviors (upon completion of training). Assist students with personal hygiene and grooming functions including toileting, diapering, eating, dressing, and other self-help skills. Provide a positive role model for students Accompany and monitor students on community-based instructional outings, work programs, and/or field trips; reinforce positive behavior in public settings; assist students in learning life skills. Provide transportation support before school or after school (full time positions only) PHYSICAL ABILITY TO MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS
Stand, sit, stoop, reach, bend, squat, and kneel. Move, or lift, up to 50 pounds. There are specific guidelines that all staff is required to follow when lifting a student or equipment. Lifts have been designed for two persons, three persons, and four persons. Walk to cover a variety of terrains, including tile, carpet, blacktop, concrete, sidewalks, wood decking, dirt, grass, padded mats and playgrounds. May need to walk up and/or down inclines and flights of stairs. Assist students on or off transportation; assist students with mobility devices; respond to student emergencies; carry car seats to class or bus as required. WORK ATMOSPHERE REQUIREMENTS
Work days are up to 8 hours per day, Monday - Friday; work hours may vary depending on responsibilities. Workplace atmosphere is variably paced with variable pressure. Classrooms have varying amount of adult assistance, depending on student needs. MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to memorize names and faces and behavior changes and appropriate responses. Ability to concentrate to observe and supervise students. Ability to collaboratively interact with parents, students, coworkers and supervisor. Ability to think critically and react appropriately to emergency situations. Project a mature, constructive, stable, and healthy attitude in community and work settings. ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
May come in contact with blood borne pathogens and infectious diseases. Training and protective equipment is provided.
