ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Consistently maintains a high level of confidentiality.
- Provides assistance to students regarding classroom assignments, tutor students, and proctor assessments.
- Motivate and encourage students in positive ways to successfully complete assigned work.
- Establish an open-door policy with students for any questions, concerns, and issues that they may be experiencing.
- Provide consistency for students as a trusted adult doing daily check in and check out. Also, taking the time to listen and make positive connections with the students.
- Coordinate daily classroom assignments with teaching staff, collects completed work (Quizzes/Tests) and returns to the teacher in a timely matter.
- Adapts classroom work under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce lesson plans.
- Confers with teachers for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing students' objectives.
- Implements, under the supervision of the teacher, instructional programs in accordance with lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study in service of A-G course completion.
- Monitors individual students, classroom, etc. for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Participates in required training.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with adults and children; perform a variety of above-average, complex tasks; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; prepare reports as required; use good grammar.
- Knowledge of correct language usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. California State law requires that all personnel working in an instructional setting must demonstrate high school proficiency in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. Applicants must pass a proficiency examination before they can be considered for a position as an Instructional Assistant.
- Education requirement of graduation from high school or equivalent, preferably supplemented by two years college course or equivalent.
