The Asian Business Institute & Resource Center (ABIRC) is a Fresno-based nonprofit organization founded in 2009 with the mission to support and promote strong networks of Asian business owners and underserved communities throughout Central California. ABIRC provides workforce development, business technical assistance, advocacy, community engagement, and educational programming designed to strengthen economic opportunity and community resilience. ABIRC is seeking a motivated, community-centered Program Specialist to support outreach, technical assistance, and program implementation for small businesses and agricultural communities. Position Summary Under the direction of the Program Manager or Program Director, the Program Specialist will assist with outreach, participant engagement, technical assistance, reporting, and administrative coordination for agricultural and community-focused programs. The ideal candidate is highly organized, culturally responsive, detail-oriented, and passionate about supporting underserved communities and small-scale farmers throughout Central California. This role requires strong communication skills, independent problem-solving abilities, and a willingness to travel within the region to support participants and program activities. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Community Outreach & Engagement Conduct outreach and engagement activities with farmers, ranchers, and community members. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and program participants. Respond professionally to inquiries regarding ABIRC programs, services, and resources. Represent ABIRC at community meetings, workshops, outreach events, and stakeholder convenings. Support participant recruitment and retention efforts through culturally responsive outreach strategies. Program Coordination & Technical Assistance Provide technical assistance to program participants regarding applications, eligibility requirements, and documentation collection. Support implementation of program goals and grant deliverables outlined in project agreements and narratives. Assist participants in navigating available agricultural, workforce and community support resources. Coordinate scheduling and logistics for field visits, workshops, meetings, and travel. Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities Maintain accurate participant files, records, and database entries. Prepare reports, spreadsheets, meeting notes, and other program documentation in a timely manner. Track participant engagement and program outcomes. Handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. Assist with data collection, grant reporting, audits, and program evaluations. Support department operations through general administrative duties and record management. Workshop & Event Support Assist with planning and coordination of workshops, trainings, educational events, and presentations. Prepare outreach materials, event packets, sign-in sheets, and presentation materials. Support on-site event operations and participant communications. Additional Responsibilities Travel throughout Central California as needed, including Fresno, Madera, Merced, San Joaquin, and Sacramento Counties etc. Attend occasional evening and weekend activities based on program and organizational needs. Perform other program-related duties as assigned to support ABIRC's mission and organizational goals. Required Qualifications Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or college coursework in agriculture, business, public administration, social sciences, or related field strongly preferred; Bachelor's degree a plus. Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience in program coordination, outreach, agriculture initiatives, nonprofit services, or community engagement required. Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations strongly preferred. Knowledge and Skills Familiarity with small-scale farming, urban agriculture, or agricultural communities preferred. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work effectively and respectfully with culturally and linguistically diverse communities/populations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Google Workspace. Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills. Ability to maintain accurate records, complete data entry, and manage confidential information with attention to detail. Ability to work independently, manage priorities and collaborate effectively within a team environment. Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, accountability and strong work ethic. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual or multilingual proficiency strongly preferred, particularly in Southeast Asian languages commonly spoken within the communities served. Experience working with Southeast Asian, immigrant, refugee, and other culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Experience supporting outreach, community engagement, agriculture-related initiatives, workforce development, or grant-funded nonprofit programs preferred. Knowledge of culturally responsive and community-centered engagement practices preferred. Familiarity with Central Valley agricultural communities, small-scale farming operations, or urban agriculture initiatives preferred.
