Elementary School Teaching Assistant Description:
Full-time Position Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School, a community Jewish day school, seeks an energetic, passionate, and flexible elementary school teaching assistant for the 2026 - 2027 school year. The successful candidate will be professional, collaborative, flexible, organized, possess personal integrity, and be enthusiastic about participating in our community of lifelong learners.
Responsibilities will include:
Work cooperatively and supportively with lead teachers in lower elementary grades and specialists (art, maker/tech, music, and science) Establish and maintain standards of excellence for supervision and student engagement Promote the active participation of all students to ensure a positive and rewarding experience: in the classroom, at play on the yard, during transitions, and throughout the school day Collaborate with colleagues and administration as needed regarding the social, emotional, and physical development of students Provide one-to-one, small-group, and whole-group assistance and supervision, both in the classroom and on the playground.
A successful candidate will have:
Passion for and enjoyment of young children and learning Experience working with children ages 4 - 8 Understanding of child development and the unique needs of children at each stage of development Comfort/expertise with technology for communications and instruction Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with people of all levels in a professional and constructive manner Flexibility to work in multiple settings and shared facilities Desire to engender a love of learning as well as a caring, professional demeanor, and the willingness to work as part of multiple teams (grade level team, general and Judaic Studies teachers, specialist teachers, and administration) Heschel offers competitive salaries and benefits, along with a collegial work environment.
