Job Description
Calvary Christian Preschool of the Pacific Palisades is looking for a Preschool Teacher's Assistant to work with children between 2 and 3 years of age. This is a part-time position, with the morning hours of 8:00
- 12:30pm Monday
- Friday starting in September. There is also the opportunity to work a 2-3 afternoons a week until 3:00pm. Primary Job Responsibilities
- Assists in supervising and monitoring children's activities; with teacher's direction, guidance and supervision, works and interacts with individual or small groups of children in classroom on assigned learning activities or projects to encourage positive learning; supervises children's playground activities.
- Helps with daily classroom and activity set-up, preparation and clean-up; distributes and collects supplies and materials; sets up and puts away equipment and toys and/or monitors parent volunteers and children to ensure that classroom toys, materials and equipment are put away and appropriately organized.
- Ensures a safe and healthy classroom environment to achieve optimal learning and development; establishes safe boundaries for the children in the classroom and on the playground.
- Encourages students' positive self-image and supports individuality, and independence; uses conflict resolution steps that empower the children; speaks to children in a positive tone.
- Communicates clearly and effectively orally and in writing using correct English; communicates about parental concerns, issues and progress to the Lead Teacher and school Director.
- Works comfortably in a faith-based Christian school and participates in teaching children Bible songs, reading Bible stories and praying.
- Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to continually learn, improve skills and adopt new ideas in education.
HIRING CRITERIA
Experience At least one year of experience working with preschool-aged children in an organized setting, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred. Knowledge Has knowledge of basic practices and methods of instruction, care and supervision of young children and basic concepts of child development and behavior patterns of preschool-aged children Education Graduation from high school or a GED equivalent; and completion of or currently taking 6 post-secondary semester units or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development, from an accredited or approved college or university, which includes courses in child or human growth and development, child and family or child, family and community program curriculum. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit; talk or hear; stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl and lift up to 40 pounds. Mental Demands While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use oral communication skills; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations; work with constant interruptions on multiple, concurrent tasks and interact with teachers, parents, children and others encountered in the course of work. The employee must be able to handle oneself in stressful situations in a moderately loud environment.Job Type:
