Downtown Los Angeles, CA About the Opportunity A well-established nonprofit organization in Downtown Los Angeles is seeking a compassionate and dependable Program Assistant to support individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability. This role helps maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment while assisting with daily program operations and participant engagement. This is a temporary-to-hire opportunity through a staffing agency . Candidates will initially be employed and paid weekly through the staffing agency. Upon successful completion of the temporary assignment period and satisfactory performance, candidates may be considered for permanent employment. Applicants must be comfortable working through a staffing agency during the temporary assignment period. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Monitor program participants and ensure compliance with program rules and guidelines Support a safe, respectful, and structured environment for guests and staff Conduct room, property, and facility inspections as needed Assist with intake, orientation, and discharge processes Respond to incidents, safety concerns, and emergencies following established protocols Assist with de-escalation and conflict resolution when necessary Complete daily documentation, incident reports, and logs Support administrative tasks including data entry, filing, and reporting Participate in team meetings and staff trainings Assist program leadership with assigned tasks and special projects Provide general support to participants and staff as needed Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required Minimum 1 year of experience in social services, shelters, nonprofit organizations, behavioral health, security, customer service, outreach, or related field preferred Valid California Driver's License required Must be eligible to be added to company vehicle insurance policy Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to work independently and in a team setting Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout facility for extended periods Ability to lift up to 30 lbs Ability to respond to emergencies when needed Important Employment Information Weekly pay through staffing agency Temporary-to-hire opportunity Must be comfortable working through a staffing agency before consideration for permanent employment Background check required Reliable transportation required Screening Questions (Required) Are you comfortable working through a staffing agency and receiving weekly pay during a temporary assignment before possible permanent hire?
