Designed for children ages 3-6, Terrain offers a small-group, child-led learning environment where imagination, exploration, and outdoor adventure guide every day. Children hike, explore different terrains, climb trees, watch wildlife, play in the dirt, build forts, collect seeds and leaves, paint with mud, create natural art, listen to read-alouds, and learn Spanish vocabulary along the way. Terrain is an early-childhood entry point that flows beautifully into our El Jardín Spanish, Art & Nature Program. Our 5:1 ratio ensures children receive close guidance, emotional support, and a safe, joyful place to practice kindness, healthy risk-taking, confidence, sharing, and empathy—for one another and for nature. Position Overview Lanterns Global is seeking a warm, energetic, bilingual (Spanish/English preferred but not required) outdoor educator to assist our Terrain OC forest school classes. The ideal candidate is a nature-loving, child-led learning enthusiast with strong classroom presence, early childhood experience, and genuine excitement for exploring the outdoors with young children. This role is physically active, joy-filled, and deeply relational. Teachers guide children through trails, climb over logs with them, help them practice safe exploration, offer simple Spanish vocabulary as they walk, and create a nurturing environment that allows children to thrive. Key Responsibilities Outdoor Teaching & Child-Led Learning Lead small groups of children ages 3-6 through hikes, exploration, nature play, and creative outdoor activities Facilitate child-led discovery, following student curiosity and designing experiences around nature encounters Integrate simple Spanish vocabulary into play, exploration, and conversation Read stories, guide circle time, and provide warm early childhood structure in an unstructured outdoor environment Safety, Care & Emotional Support Maintain excellent supervision and awareness during hikes, climbing, and exploration Set boundaries kindly and firmly, promoting healthy risk-taking Support children in social-emotional learning: kindness, sharing, empathy, communication Program Contribution Collaborate with the Lanterns Global team Bring creativity, ideas, and enthusiasm to enhance each session Communicate warmly and professionally with families Ideal Candidate Qualifications Experience & Background 2-5+ years working with young children (ages 3-6) in group settings Early childhood experience in outdoor education, forest school, nature school, Montessori, Reggio, Waldorf, charter enrichment, or homeschool environments Classroom management and behavior-guidance experience Experience guiding children in nature play, sensory exploration, and imaginative learning Skills & Traits Warm, gentle, nurturing, and engaging Excellent communicator with parents and team members Energetic, playful, and able to make learning FUN Confident and firm when needed—maintains structure lovingly Teachable, humble, and collaborative Spanish fluency or strong Spanish comfort is a major plus Physical & Outdoor Readiness Enjoys hiking, walking long distances, bending, lifting, exploring uneven terrain Loves being outside in all weather Thrives in nature-based environments Additional Requirements Must love early childhood ages and understand developmental needs Must be able to lead and supervise potty-independent children Must pass background checks and safety screenings required for child programs You have 3 references who will validate your track record of being trustworthy, safe, consistent, and nurturing. Bonus if you are capable of teaching basic Spanish vocabulary along the journey, but not required. You are available Monday and Friday 9:00am - 12:00pm (shift starts approx. 8:40-12:20ish).
