10 MonthPRIMARY FUNCTION
Under the director supervision of a site administrator and assigned to certificated staff. Assist in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students with learning disabilities and/or mild to moderate delays in a classroom; monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; perform a variety of clerical duties as assigned.REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
: The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in this job title; however, employees may perform other related duties, and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee in the job title. Tutor individual or small groups of students with learning disabilities, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher. Prepare lesson and instructional materials for individual students as directed by the teacher; maintain daily records of achievements. Assist the instructional staff in supervising students inside and outside the classroom; direct group activities of students as assigned. Perform a variety of clerical duties such as preparing and duplicating instructional material, ordering supplies. Provide support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating audio-visual equipment, operating educational training equipment and distributing and collecting paper and supplies. Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; assist in maintaining a clean and orderly classroom environment. Participate in meeting and in-service training programs as assigned. Provide instruction and assistance to students with learning disabilities in social, self-help and community skills. Perform other related duties as assigned.EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent. Completed at least 2 years of study at an institute of higher education equivalent to 48 semester units or successful completion of the County Office adopted Para educator Academic Assessment may be substituted for the Associate's degree. Preferred one (1) year experience in working with school-age children in an organized settingLICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid California Driver=s License.Knowledge and Ability Knowledge of:
Special needs issues and requirements of students with learning disabilities. Basic subject taught in district schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language and reading. Safe practices in classroom and playground activities. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Reading and writing communication skills. Interpersonal relations skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Basic record-keeping techniques. Classroom procedures and conduct.Ability to:
Assist certificated staff with instruction and related activities for students with learning disabilities. Assist students in developing self-help and social skills. Perform clerical duties such as filing, duplicating and maintaining all student records in a confidential manner. Print and write legibly. Make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Learn the procedures, functions and limitations of assigned duties. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Operate instructional and office equipment.WORKING CONDITIONS
