Teacher on Special Assignment for Academic Projects The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for Academic Projects is a centrally assigned position paid on the certificated teacher salary schedule that will support classroom teachers with the full implementation of the district's adopted, standards-based academic programs. The essential functions of the TOSA for Academic Projects are to support classroom teachers who are participating in district initiatives, programs, and projects to implement, modify, and review coherent standards-based instructional programs.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide support and assistance to classroom teachers to fully and skillfully implement the district's adopted instructional programs.
  • Provide/coordinate professional development opportunities to deepen teachers' knowledge of the district's instructional programs and support program implementation.
  • Design opportunities for teachers to see best practices demonstrated on site (e.g. lab classroom, demonstration lessons) and to share practices with one another (e.g. grade-level meetings, inquiry groups, peer observations).
  • Assist teachers in building an interactive classroom environment focused on content and learning strategies.
  • Serve as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students including English learners, Standard English learners, students enrolled in Special Education Programs, and students with diverse learning needs.
  • Assist teachers in determining resources for the preparation and pacing of effective instruction and provide feedback for improvement.
  • Participate in/coordinate collaborative grade level/department meetings to assist in the analysis and utilization of assessment data to improve student achievement and to assist in setting goals for improved instruction.
  • Oversee collection, analysis, and use of data to identify student learning needs and improve instruction and interventions.
  • Meet regularly with the principals, district staff, and other academic support providers to enhance program articulation and system coherence.
Prepare forms, records, and reports as directed. Attend meetings and trainings as directed. Other duties as assigned.
Desirable Qualifications:
Valid California teaching Credential A minimum of five years classroom teaching experience Demonstrated experience of leadership abilities in instructional programs An ability to work collaborate effectively with colleagues as well as district and school administrators Coaching or consulting experience
