Teaching Assistant - SPaRC Western University of Health Sciences - 4.2 Pomona, CA Job Details Temporary $17 an hour 1 hour ago Benefits Paid time off Retirement plan Qualifications Computer operation Faculty collaboration Bachelor's degree Full Job Description The Summer Preparedness and Readiness Course (SPaRC) is a three-week program held in June, before the start of the academic year. SPaRC is designed to prepare incoming non-traditional students for the rigors of their chosen program by providing an introduction to applicable basic medical science courses, efficient academic learning skills, and wellbeing competencies in an interprofessional setting. Under direction, the TA will work with the entire cohort. The TA is required to create and deliver Skeletal System, Pharmacology, and other program specific content and to be available during the Medical Gross Anatomy (MGA) lecture portions of the course. Additional participation in exam delivery, proctoring, and reviews are expected. This position will also adhere to LEAD guidelines as well as follow LEAD documentation policies and procedures. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Knowledge:
Understanding of foundational and program specific medical science content, including Medical Gross Anatomy (MGA), Pharmacology, and Skeletal System concepts. Familiarity with LEAD program guidelines, documentation standards, and academic support practices for non‑traditional health‑profession students.
Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with faculty, staff, and incoming students in both virtual and on‑campus settings. High proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), Google Workspace, Zoom, and online learning platforms.
Abilities:
Ability to guide student learning throughout SPaRC content, as well as additional program‑specific sessions. Ability to model professionalism, follow established procedures, and contribute to an interprofessional learning environment that promotes readiness and confidence. Demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.
Required Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's Degree required.
Experience:
Have completed one year of doctoral or professional experience. Must be an admitted student at Western University of Health Sciences in good academic standing.
Preferred Qualifications Essential Job Duties Key Responsibilities Instructional Design and Assessment Responsibilities:
Create and deliver content and lectures. Create, administer, and review exams.
Key Responsibilities Cohort Support and Learning Environment Facilitation:
Through facilitation, develop an atmosphere of mutual trust and support within the SPaRC cohort.
Key Responsibilities Compliance and Training Responsibilities:
Follow all LEAD policies and procedures. Complete initial orientation and training. Attend all SPaRC content-planning meetings.
Key Responsibilities Student Support and Program Operations:
Collaborate with LEAD and SPaRC content professor to handle any student issues (academic, professional, or personal). Perform additional duties related to supporting SPaRC operations.
