BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist in the overall activities of elementary-aged students in an Extended Student Services (ESS) program; assist in planning and designing activities; supervise students in classroom and outdoor activities. Examples of Duties
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Assist in the preparation of daily program activities including materials and supplies; provide a safe, caring, positive and interesting learning environment; take attendance. E Lead and supervise students in various indoor/outdoor activities including games, crafts, cooking, projects and related activities. E Serve as role model and develop positive social behaviors of students according to established procedures; reinforce positive behaviors as appropriate and communicate inappropriate behaviors to Supervisor and parents E Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; assist in maintaining a clean and orderly environment. E Perform a variety of duties including monthly calendar, recording attendance, bulletin boards, operating necessary equipment, and answering the phone.. E Assist students with homework assignments; explain questions and provide better understanding of homework as needed; follow site homework expectations. E Administer first aid and follow necessary emergency procedures and documentation; identify and report safety hazards on site or suspected child abuse to appropriate personnel as assigned. E Escort students to and from activities on campus as assigned. E Assist in the preparation of snacks for students. E Attend staff meetings and professional development as it pertains to the position. E Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
One year experience working in a pre-school or K-8 child care program or recent volunteer experience in a similar program. Supplemental Information
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Child development principles and practices. Safe practices in classroom and outdoor activities. Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct. Basic record-keeping techniques. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Oral and written communication skills. Policies and procedures of assigned program and activities. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Health and safety regulations.
ABILITY TO
Assist in the overall activities of elementary or middle school-aged students in an ESS or ASES program. Assist in planning and designing activities. Supervise students in classroom and outdoor activities. Make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately. Maintain a safe, clean and orderly environment. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Oversee and discipline students according to approved policies and procedures. Operate assigned equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
ENVIRONMENT:
Classroom, playground and athletic field environment. Constant interruptions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time. Kneeling, crouching or bending at the waist to assist students. Seeing to observe students. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned equipment. Lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects. In accordance with Personnel Commission Rules and Regulations of Classified Service # 70.200.1, new employees to Poway Unified School District will be placed at Step 1 of the official salary range designated for the position.
