Job Description
Position Purpose :
Learning Specialists or Learning Support Teachers provide academic support to students in grades 6-12 who have learning disabilities, medical conditions, Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder, executive function challenges or other factors that impact their learning.Major Responsibilities:
Provide individualized academic support in conjunction with classroom curriculum With support from the student support leads, develop a support plan based on information from the student's psychoeducational profile incorporating appropriate strategies, techniques and accommodations Develop student's study, organizational, and test taking skills through ongoing reinforcement of techniques Develop and implement executive functioning strategies and support and maintain data regarding executive functioning skills Maintain close communication with teachers, parents, and outside professionals to create a team approach to support student Work with student and parents to demystify students regarding their learning strengths and weaknesses Help students develop self-advocacy skills Support school community, students and parents in navigating the learning process for students with learning challenges Develop and implement social emotional learning strategies, conflict resolution, and anxiety management in conjunction with the WEB team and counselorsGeneral Responsibilities:
Support and further the school's mission, vision, and values Actively engage in the life of the school and participate in related teaching duties, as needed Ensure the safety and well-being of students Teach up to 2 blocks, as assigned by theHead of School Other Considerations:
Annual Salary Range:
$63,169 - $85,269Start Date:
August 1, 2026Qualifications:
Demonstrates an understanding of the intellectual, social, and emotional development of student learners Able to develop strong and trusting relationships with students Able to provide academic support using a variety of strategies or approaches to meet the needs of the student Strong communication and collaboration skills Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in education or related subject A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the schools Strong teaching ability with a clear enjoyment of working with children and outstanding interpersonal skills Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking in English, including excellent verbal and written skills Ability to work well with students and colleagues and a willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the RHP community Commitment to equity and inclusion Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs Strong interest in professional development opportunities Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctualityPhysical Demands and Work Environment:
Willingness and ability to work in a highly-demanding environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts Ability and willingness to attend and work occasional overnight field trips Ability to travel safely and comfortably across a campus May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs Work primarily in a traditional, climate-controlled classroom environment and work intermittently in outside weather conditions consistent with San Pedro weatherEQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
