INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE Job Summary:
The job of "Instructional Aide" is done for the purpose/s of assisting (under direct supervision) in the supervision and instruction of students, and assisting with clerical tasks.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Monitors individual students, classroom and/or playground activities for the purpose of providing a safe environment.
  • Assists teachers and parents for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and general requirements of teaching, i.e., setting up schedules, meetings, etc.
  • Performs record keeping, e.g., recording test results, basic clerical functions, copying tests, handouts, etc. for the purpose of supporting the teacher in maintaining students' files and providing classroom materials.
  • Maintains classroom equipment including textbooks, students' files, records, etc. for the purpose of ensuring a safe and appropriate learning environment.
  • Directs instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and ensuring the needs of the students.
  • Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe environment and providing optimal learning conditions.
  • Prepares documentation, e.g., progress reports, grades, attendance, etc. for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Monitors individual students, classroom and/or playground activities.
Other Job Functions:
  • May need to administer first aid and medical assistance to students for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children. Provision of routine services to medically fragile students with highly specialized health needs will be assigned upon mutual agreement between supervisor and instructional aide.
  • Administers tests for the purpose of assisting teacher.
  • Participates in various meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
  • Contact parents or legal guardians for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce classroom objectives in the home setting.
  • Reports incidents, e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, etc. for the purpose of maximizing students personal safety and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policies.
  • Participates with students in group activities for the purpose of developing leadership, teamwork, social skills, and responsibility.
Additional or different functions may be assigned as required. Job Requirements -
Qualifications:
    Experience Required:
    Prior job related experience paid or volunteer with school age children.
    • Skills, Knowledge and/or
    Abilities Required:
    Skills to perform basic clerical functions, basic arithmetic calculations, operate standard office equipment, use of English grammar, punctuation and spelling. Basic operating knowledge of computers desired. Knowledge of principles of child development, instructional processes. Abilities to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, demonstrate flexibility, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies; use English in both written and verbal form, rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations; sit for extended periods of time. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling, talking/hearing, near/far visual acuity, stand or walk for prolonged periods.
      Education Required:
      High School diploma or equivalent.
      • Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or
      Testing Required:
      TB Test clearance, Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance, Instructional Aide Proficiency Test. First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate may be required.
