Separate Programs Administration and Special Education Director Job Summary :
Provide instructional classroom behavior support to students in a separate school environment—under the guidance and supervision of certified special education teachers. We are hiring for all Separate School Programs for the areas of Florence, Calhan and Colorado Springs. Commuting is a possibility with mileage and/or transportation provided. Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Instruction and Classroom Management Skills Assists teachers with implementing standards-based instructional strategies and curricula. Utilizes a variety of instructional materials including media and technology. Addresses a variety of student learning styles and uses appropriate accommodations and modifications, under the direction of certified teachers. Makes practical recommendations for behavioral change to students and team members. Demonstrates knowledge of a variety of behavioral management techniques. Establishes clear limits and provides students with appropriate choices and consequences that are logical, respectful, and non-punitive. Promotes student personal growth and a sense of self-worth. Assists students in the development of good judgment and socially acceptable behavior. 2. Interpersonal Relationship Skills a. Develops and maintains rapport, credibility and trust with all SOE staff members and ancillary staff. b. Establishes and maintains good rapport with students, while maintaining professional teacher/student relationships. c. Demonstrates good listening skills. d. Shows sensitivity to the feelings of others. e. Contributes to positive staff morale. f. Fosters teamwork and collaboration with colleagues. g. Resolves conflicts with others in a positive and direct manner and offers suggestions through appropriate channels. 3. Administrative Skills a. Assists teachers in maintaining appropriate classroom records and documentation. Produces appropriate program records (incident reports, injury reports, regulation room and restraint and/or seclusion reports, point card information, etc.). b. Organizes and prioritizes time and works independently (with appropriate direction from teachers and administrators). c. Completes work in a timely manner. d. Demonstrates good oral and written communications skills. e. Assists teachers in the development, implementation, and monitoring of IEP goals and objectives. 4. Professional Responsibility a. Respects confidentiality. b. Arrives to work consistently on time, is prompt to meetings, and demonstrates consistent work attendance. c. Demonstrates flexibility by accepting duty assignments, volunteering for special projects and activities, etc. d. Accepts and supports changes in the program. e. Demonstrates good judgment and common sense. f. Accepts constructive criticism. g. Demonstrates enthusiasm for working with challenging students and displays a positive attitude in general. h. Uses appropriate judgment with respect to personal grooming and dress. i. Presents a favorable image in representing PPBOCES and SOE j. Displays composure, dignity and self-confidence while fulfilling job responsibilities. k. Contributes positively and willingly to SOE' and PPBOCES' organization goals and objectives. l. Takes advantage of staff development opportunities to maintain and increase skills. m. Actively contributes to discussion during staff meetings, staffing, etc. n. Engages in crisis intervention (e.g. intervention with agitated students including physical restraint, searches, police reporting, etc.) following the CPI, Ukeru, and Tact2 training and procedures. Staff will be trained through BOCES. o. Dresses in appropriate school attire, setting a good example for students. 5. Assumes responsibility for other duties or tasks as assigned by teachers and/or administrative personnel. Evaluation :
This position will be evaluated in accordance with the above listed responsibilities, and in accordance with board policy on evaluation of personnel. Salary, Working Time, Vacation, Etc.: This position shall be 1.0 FTE, 179 days per year based on the school calendar. Compensation:
Starting hourly rate of 17.67 reflects starting rate with no experience, hourly rate determined based upon experience and on an 8-hour day. Working Conditions :
Talking and hearing, walking, standing or bending is frequently required Reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping or kneeling is also required The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds The employee may come in contact with bodily fluids and be subjected to a hazardous work environment (students who hit, kick, spit, scratch, bite, etc.) Extended periods of time in front of a computer screen, traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the meeting and/or emergency.
