Job Description

WHO WE ARE
Omar D. Blair Charter School is a Kinder - 8th Grade DPS School in the Far Northeast. ODB educates and provides all scholars the opportunities and support needed to enable them to develop abilities and skills to function successfully in society. Omar D. JOB SUMMARY
At Omar D. Blair Charter School, a Special Education Paraprofessional provides effective scholar support to students with (mild, moderate and severe needs) special education needs under teacher and administration directives to ensure scholar success. They move throughout the school building and classroom to fulfill the necessary accommodations to the learning and social emotional needs of scholars in accordance with their individualized education plan and needs. They work as Designated Adult Support (DAS) with special education scholars while promoting an educational program that fosters achievement for all. SpEd Paraprofessionals provide DAS support to scholars with special needs, 504 needs and scholars with Autism Spectrum Disorder by giving them appropriate learning activities under directives of the teacher or program coordinator to help them fulfill their potential for academic, intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Special Education Paraprofessionals also support in organizing classrooms and teaching materials, monitoring the classroom during lessons, minimizing distractions and disruptions, along with supporting scholars as they transition in and out of the classroom. SpEd Paraprofessionals also understand the development of special needs scholars, scholars on the spectrum of autism, general education scholoars and are able to communicate effectively with all school aged children and their families. SpEd Paraprofessionals are responsible for helping in the supervision of special needs scholars, including those with severe needs, and guiding their development. SpEd Paraprofessionals prioritize the safety of scholars and the school community. They also work closely with teachers and other school personnel to obtain directives as they work with scholars 1 on 1 (as DAS), small groups, grading, and assisting with lesson plans and materials. SpEd Paraprofessionals support curriculum and behavior practices that align with ODB's culture of connections, management and response. Paraprofessionals promote an atmosphere of safety which ensures mutual respect between scholars, families and staff members. Paraprofessionals also uphold the responsibility of being able to manage personal and common planning, data meetings, and professional development.
