Job Description

Unfortunately we do not offer health insurance.• Description The Ranch & Program Assistant provides essential support across horse care, ranch operations, and programming at Summit Valley Horse Center (SVHC). This is a hands-on, team-oriented role that works closely with the entire staff to ensure horses are cared for, programs run smoothly, and participants experience a safe and enriching environment. This position reports directly to the Ranch Director. The Ranch & Program Assistant is a key member of the operational team and may be assigned tasks across equine and ranch care, program support, volunteer coordination, and administrative duties. Key Responsibilities Program Assistance Assist the Ranch Director and Ranch & Program Coordinator with program delivery, including Meet the Minis, Hands on Horses and specialty camps such as Keystone Science School, Girl Scouts, 4-H, as well as programs for various community groups and organizations. Help prepare horses for programs and lessons, verifying that each horse is in good health, properly groomed, equipment is in safe working order, and the physical environment is safe and free of hazards. Help maintain participant record logs and lesson plans as directed. Communicate with all participants and visitors in a positive, professional manner consistent with SVHC's core values. Model and promote safe behaviors in all work settings consistent with SVHC health and safety policies. Ranch Operations Support Assist with daily ranch tasks as assigned by the Ranch Director or Ranch & Program Coordinator, including horse care, facility preparation, and program setup. Help ensure arenas, round pens, tack rooms, and program areas are clean, organized, and ready for use. Clean, care for, and store all tack and saddles after use; conduct weekly tack room inventory and cleaning. Assist with special events on and off ranch as required. Equine Support Assist in implementing the horse evaluation system to identify each horse's skill level and determine appropriate handler and participant pairings. Assist in maintaining program horse training logs including early, mid, and end-of-season evaluations. Communicate all horse health concerns and behavioral changes immediately to the Ranch Director. Assist the Ranch Director in visiting horse rescue facilities to evaluate potential foster horses as needed. Support equine emergency response as directed; assist with horse transport to and from rescue facilities if needed. Volunteer Support Assist in volunteer training, orientation, and ongoing education within youth programs. Direct volunteers in a positive, respectful manner before, during and after classes and programs. Assist in creating a safe, positive educational environment for volunteers in both Beginner and Advanced Horsemanship classes and all programs. Empower volunteers to provide the best possible experience for program participants. Administrative Responsibilities Accept program and class payments from participants; record payment details and provide all payment logs and funds to the Ranch Director for further handling. Assist with participant safety and waiver collection. Submit time sheets and invoices to the Ranch Director using the approved schedule and system. Participate in required staff and manager meetings. Maintain required certifications and insurance.
Scope and Schedule Full-time seasonal:
June through
September Part-time:
October through May for ranch, program, and horse preparation and winter operations. Five days per week; days off depend on staffing and program needs. Weekend work required as programs and events demand. Ranch is operational seven (7) days per week, May through October. Qualifications Skills Extensive equine experience with demonstrated proficiency in horse care, behavior, and handling. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work respectfully with a diverse group of participants, volunteers, and community members of all ages. Organized, self-motivated, and adaptable; able to work independently and as part of a team. General computer proficiency including invoicing and record keeping. Education, Experience and Certifications Hold or be working toward a recognized riding instruction or horsemanship certification preferred. Bachelor's degree in Equine Science or related field preferred, or a minimum of three years of experience in a lesson or horse program role. Valid driver's license, ability and experience driving horse and equipment trailers preferred. Must be over 18 years of age. Candidates may be subject to a background check post-offer of employment. Physical Requirements Able to work most of the time outside at high altitude in varying conditions including uneven and slick terrain and unpredictable weather and situations. Ability to stand for extended periods; can stoop, bend, and perform manual labor. Ability to lift 50-75 pounds with assistance. Must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. Benefits Paid sick leave under the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act. May be eligible for benefits under Colorado Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI), administered by the State.

Summit Valley Horse Center:
Who We Are Summit Valley Horse Center provides gentling and training to rescued horses to improve their chances for adoption and serves as Summit County's resource for horse-centered learning and experiences. Horse rescues across Colorado work hard to gather the hundreds of horses that are abandoned, abused or surrendered each year and provide a safe refuge where their health can be restored and they can be adopted into new homes. However, some horses can be challenging to re-home because of behavior problems or a lack of basic training. Summit Valley Horse Center provides a safe environment where our volunteers are taught to retrain these horses to be more adoptable from the recuse organizations that partner with us. We are also a place where adults and children of all means can come to learn about the nature of horses and get hands-on experience in grooming, relating to, training and riding these animals. Through programs with our trained horses, including minis, ponies and full-sized horses, we give the public and a broad range of community organizations and their participants the rare opportunity to spend quality time with horses, learn how to connect and communicate with them and build their horsemanship skills. We are a place where anyone can experience the joy that simply being with horses can bring.
