General Duties:
To assist the student(s) in all aspects of learning opportunities and activities of daily living as well as assist the teacher as needed.
Responsibilities:
1.Assist student academically in all settings throughout the school day. 2.Assist with mobility and orientation. 3.All aspects of ADL's when necessary. 4.Maybe required to lift during a student transition and reposition (primarily for students that are non-ambulatory). 5.Assist with toileting and hygiene/self-care skills. 6.Assist with feeding. 7.Help student(s) with organizational skills. 8.Guide students in developing positive relationships with peers and adults. 9.Assist with the supervision of students during student free time. 10.Escort and provide assistance to student(s) when necessary. 11.Assist teacher in maintaining work and study areas. 12.Collect and display suitable material for educational displays. 13.With teacher supervision, correct student work and give additional work to help remediate student's weaknesses. 14.Attend meetings to help organize weekly programs of instruction and discuss problematic students and situations if required. 15.With teacher supervision, participate in discipline procedures and prescribe consequences for student behavior. 16.Collect data as needed when asked. 17.Attend upcoming Safety Care training for de-escalation techniques and strategies. 18.Required to attend and participate in aquatics program (must be in the water with the student(s)). 19.Able to assist the student(s) when met with a challenge by physical needs when necessary, such as outburst, eloping, etc. 20.Maintain a cooperative staff relationship with all personnel functioning within the educational setting. 21.Work in the community to assist with Transitional goals. 22.Assist teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing behavior or academic skills based on an understanding of individual student needs, interests and abilities. 23.Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher/or the Director of Special Education or his/her designee.
Qualifications:
1.Be of good character 2.Hold a High school Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) 3.
Meet Connecticut instructional assistant requirements:
4.Complete at least two years of post-secondary education. 5.Earn an associate degree. 6.Pass a related assessment (Praxis Para Pro Assessment). 7.Completion of a successful interview. 8.Demonstrated aptitude 9.Completion of a successful interview.
