JOB SUMMARY
: The Multi-Lingual Paraprofessional supports student learning and engagement by assisting teachers in delivering instruction, providing academic and language support to multilingual learners, and helping bridge communication between the school, students, and families who speak languages other than English. This role includes working directly with students in small groups or one-on-one, offering translation and interpretation services as needed, and fostering a culturally responsive environment that promotes equity, inclusion, and academic success
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
: Must hold or be eligible for an instructional paraeducator permit High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or higher preferred Demonstrated proficiency in English and at least one additional language relevant to the school community (verbal and written) Previous experience working with children in an educational or community setting preferred Knowledge of instructional strategies to support English language development and academic learning Strong communication, interpersonal, and cultural competency skills Ability to translate and interpret accurately and appropriately in educational contexts Experience working with children, especially in an educational setting who have diverse learning styles and needs Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other school staff The ability to quickly adjust to changing environments, new tasks, or different needs
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
: Assist classroom teachers in delivering lessons by providing small group or one-on-one support to multilingual learners. Reinforce concepts and skills taught in class, adapting instructional materials as needed for language comprehension. Support students in developing both academic and English language skills while honoring and valuing their native language. Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and intervention teams. Provide verbal interpretation during meetings, conferences, and school events to facilitate communication between staff, students, and families. Translate written materials such as notices, newsletters, and school forms into the designated language(s). Ensure that translations and interpretations are accurate, culturally sensitive, and appropriate for the intended audience. Act as a cultural liaison between the school and families, helping build trust and mutual understanding. Assist in communicating school policies, procedures, and events to families in their preferred language. Support parent engagement activities, workshops, and events to encourage family participation in school life. Help students navigate cultural and language transitions in the school environment. Model appropriate academic, social, and behavioral expectations. Provide guidance and encouragement to promote student self-confidence and independence. Assist with supervision of students in various settings such as classrooms, hallways, and cafeteria. Maintain confidentiality of student and family information at all times. Participate in professional development related to language acquisition, cultural responsiveness, and instructional strategies. WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPECTATIONS
This is a 10-month position based on a 185-day annual contract. Employees are expected to work 7.5 hours per day, consistent with the established school and district schedules. Responsibilities may include duties beyond instructional time, such as meetings, professional development, and school-related events. Employees are expected to maintain regular attendance, fulfill all assigned responsibilities, and demonstrate flexibility to meet the evolving needs of students, staff, and the district.
