Job Description

As a program assistant , you'll be on the front lines of fighting hunger in DeSoto County welcoming neighbors, distributing food, and connecting people to vital resources. Be the Heart of Our Daily Operations Greet and assist clients with warmth, respect, and efficiency Support food distributions at our center, in the community, and at mobile sites Pack and distribute food, assist with traffic flow, and gather client feedback Help create a welcoming, organized, and dignified experience for every neighbor Provide Spanish/English translation support to better serve our community Assist with programs like Migrant Camp distributions, Unhoused Bags, and Re-Entry Bags Connect With the Community Represent AFFB at local events and outreach opportunities Share information about food resources across DeSoto County Distribute flyers and build relationships with community partners Prepare outreach materials and support community events Help us grow by identifying new ways to reach those in need Keep Things Running Smoothly Enter and maintain accurate client data using systems like Link2Feed Support reporting, tracking, and program documentation Assist with front desk duties, including calls and scheduling Follow all policies to ensure confidentiality and professionalism Work collaboratively with a supportive, mission-driven team What You Bring Strong knowledge of the DeSoto County community (residents strongly preferred) Experience in outreach, social services, healthcare, or customer service preferred Proficiency in basic computer systems and willingness to learn new software Bilingual required: Fluent in both Spanish and English Valid Florida Driver's License, reliable transportation, and at least 3 years of driving history required Who You Are A people-person with strong communication and listening skills Compassionate, respectful, and committed to helping others A team player who thrives in a diverse environment Organized, adaptable, and ready to jump in where needed Passionate about making a real impact in your community What to Expect A dynamic work environment—both indoors and outdoors Active, hands-on work (including lifting up to 50 lbs) A fast-paced setting where your efforts directly help others Regular travel throughout
