Job Summary:
The instructional aide is responsible for providing assistance to the teacher in achieving educational objectives by working with the individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole. The instructional aide assists the teacher in providing a organized, functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
Prior experience working with elementary age children preferred .
Job Responsibilities:
Executes instructional activities with individual students or small groups of students following teacher direction and demonstration. Communicate with teachers any student areas of improvements, progress, strengths, and small group instruction. Assist with classroom management and help enforce both classroom management plans, and communicate behavioral incidents to the classroom teachers as soon as reasonably possible. Help assist students in the lunchroom and help with lunch cleanup. Assist teachers with labeling and organizing materials as needed. Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers. Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts. Follow chain of command for conflict resolution (e.g. if conflict arises, speak directly to the teacher that you in conflict with. If conflict continues, speak directly to the principal to find a resolution). All parent communication is conducted by the classroom teachers. Any concerns brought by the instructional aide will be communicated through the classroom teachers only. Serves as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher; must be able to manage job responsibilities. Must have communication and interpersonal skills, service oriented, and promote these qualities. Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions. Ability to maintain working relationship wit students. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Performance will be evaluated annually by the Building Principal and Classroom Teacher in accordance with provisions of Board policy.
