Outdoor Teaching Assistant (Part-Time) Dragonfly Field Labs -
Jacksonville, FL Start Date:
August 24, 2026 Position Summary As a Teaching Assistant at Dragonfly Field Labs, you will support the facilitation of outdoor, nature-based learning experiences for youth ages 6-17 in groups of 8-16 students. This role involves modeling lessons and instruction, assisting with daily programming, supporting child care needs, preparing materials and supplies, and helping maintain a safe, engaging, and well-organized outdoor learning environment. Dragonfly Field Labs provides Environmental Education for families in Jacksonville, FL through Nature Clubs, field trips, and hands-on classes. TA's assist lead teachers in providing engaging lesson plans to encourage students to lead a fruitful life outdoors, including learning about ecology, survival skills, science, and socio-emotional learning. DFL operates in public parks primarily in the Mandarin/Fruit Cove area, and the location varies based on the day of the week. This role reports directly to the Program Director. Position Responsibilities Support outdoor, nature-based educational programming for youth ages 6-17 Assist in modeling lessons, facilitating activities, and supporting lead educators Help with daily drop-off, pick-up, and student transitions Prepare, organize, and maintain program materials and learning supplies Provide direct care support, including hydration, sun protection, hygiene, and emotional regulation assistance Support students with appropriate outdoor clothing and weather preparedness Assist with bathroom breaks and basic student needs throughout the day Participate in daily site setup, cleanup, and general maintenance tasks Support ongoing risk management, including hazard awareness and site safety checks Help maintain a positive, cooperative, and inclusive group culture Communicate effectively with staff regarding safety concerns, scheduling, and student needs Maintain professionalism in appearance, communication, and conduct at all times Be able to travel reliably to various work locations throughout the city and arrive on time Program Focus Dragonfly Field Labs emphasizes hands-on, experiential learning rooted in outdoor education and environmental connection.
Programming may include:
Nature exploration and environmental science Physical activity and movement-based learning Cooperative games and team-building activities Outdoor skills and exploration Social-emotional learning and group development Staff are expected to be engaged learners who are open to working in dynamic outdoor environments and participating in ongoing program growth. Requirements & Qualifications Minimum age: 18 years old (or 16 with relevant experience and approval) Experience working with children required; early childhood education coursework preferred Current CPR/First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain prior to start date) Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat and rain Ability to hike moderate distances on uneven terrain Ability to remain active and on your feet for extended periods Ability to lift up to 40 lbs as needed (equipment or assisting children) Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills Commitment to child safety, inclusion, and positive youth development Have reliable transportation to work locations throughout the city, travel is compensated
Schedule Start Date:
August 24, 2026 Part-time position with flexible scheduling (Tuesday-Saturday availability) Primary working hours: Tuesday-Thursday, 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM Additional hours may be available depending on programming needs Compensation & Benefits $18-20/hour Employee discount (program-specific benefits) Compensation and support for a wide range of professional development opportunities Potential for future employment opportunities as a lead teacher Work Environment This is a fully outdoor position. Staff should expect consistent exposure to weather conditions including heat, humidity, sun, and rain.
