Part-time Description:
The Teacher's Assistant performs duties that are instructional in nature or delivers direct services to students. Serves in a position for which a teacher has ultimate responsibility for the design and implementation of educational programs and services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Discusses assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts. Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeteria, school yards, gymnasiums, during bathroom breaks, on field trips, etc. Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers. Assists children individually or in small groups to help them master content, complete assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers. Assists with the implementation of schedules and routines. Enforces administration policies and rules governing students. Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage. Prepares lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations. Provides extra assistance to students with special needs. Supervises and monitors the safety of students in the classroom. Collaborates as a team player with teachers and staff. Has ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with parents and children. Attends meetings, as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Related experience in similar position is preferred. Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.
