POSITION SUMMARY
Develop employment/vocational training and community-based sites for students with significant cognitive disabilities. Develop, maintain, coordinate, and supervise the Community Based Vocational Instruction (CBVI) Program. Initiate planning, scheduling, and training of community instruction locations. Collaborate and consult with various local, state, federal agencies (DEFACS, Social Security Office, Division of Rehabilitation Services, Judicial Agencies, and school-based Guidance Offices) to ensure that students are served on a continuum of wrap-around services. This position reports to the Director of the Division of Exceptional Students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate and monitor Community Based Vocational Instruction. Implement and maintain ongoing local, state, and federal rules and regulations and processes related to special education. Train new school based staff on DES policy and procedures, documentation, accurate data collection methods, etc.); consult with middle school staff regarding Transition planning; conduct and actively participate in meetings (IEPs, school staff, community businesses, school administration, and etc.). Provide general supervision and support for assigned units assessing with the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA). Remain current on GAA procedures, while monitoring the process for accuracy and ethics in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines. Monitor compliance as it relates to adhering to state and federal guidelines for Individual Education Programs and the evaluation/re-evaluation process. Initiates and maintains ongoing personal contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives and job placement/training agencies to promote programs for participant placement. Establish and maintain ongoing positive rapport and communication with parents via telephone calls, letters, emails, meetings to coordinate transition services for students and parents. Support school based staff with parent/teacher conferences to review student?s progress, performance, and behavior problems; assist school based staff when working with parents/guardians to develop and provide an appropriate special education program to eligible students with disabilities. Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate education field, preferably an area of Special Education or General Education with a teaching certificate in an area of Special Education. Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience within the field of special education in a K-12 environment. Valid State of Georgia certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission in the fields of Special Education Adapted curriculum and all five content areas. Field(s)/Endorsement(s):
SPECIAL EDUCATION ADAPTED CURRICULUM
(P-12) Excellent classroom management required; may be designated as a lead teacher or trainer. Normal classroom/school setting for majority of workday; will be required to travel onsite to various employer locations. Must be able to stand and walk approximately seven (7) to seven and one-half (7½) hours per day. May occasionally require travel to different school sites. Moderate duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Lifting or carrying (35 lbs.) unassisted, assist with heavy lifting or carrying (up to 100 lbs.). The 2026-2027 salary scales are not yet available.
