DESCRIPTION FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAEDUCATOR
Job Goal:
To provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning, class environment in which special education students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Qualifications:
High school diploma. A Child Development Associate Credential (CDA), or two (2) years of college, or an Associates' Degree. Generalist Paraeducator Certification.
Reports To:
Building Administrator - Superintendent - Board, coincide with chain of command Performance Responsibilities/Essential Functions[1]: Assist in implementation of students' educational programs, under supervision of the teacher. Assist in transporting students on community mobility experiences. Perform clerical duties including typing and filing. Prepares for classroom activities, under the supervision of the teacher. Work with individual students and/or small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher. Assist the teacher with non-instructional classroom duties, such as snack, toilet, and clothing routines. Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student. Assist the teacher in developing special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual student's needs, interests and abilities. Maintain the high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students. Participate in in-service training programs, as assigned. Supervise students as they arrive and/or leave on school bus. Collect and record instructional data. Assist teacher by maintaining consistency in behavioral programs as established by the teacher. Supervise recess, lunchroom, or hall duty as assigned by the building level principal. Perform other job related duties as assigned.
