Vandal QUEST (Quality University Experiences to Support Transition) is designed to create opportunities for postsecondary students with intellectual and developmental disabilities at University of Idaho. Vandal QUEST participants are non-degree seeking students who are interested in engaging in college education to improve skills to support the achievement of their personal goals related to employment, community and independent living.Position Overview:
The Instructional Assistant Vandal QUEST supports students with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they participate in college coursework, campus life, and community-based learning opportunities. Working under the supervision of program staff, the Vandal QUEST Instructional Assistant helps facilitate access to academic content, promotes student engagement, and supports the development of skills related to employment, independent living, and social participation. This role is designed toassist students in navigating college environments while promoting independence and self-determination.Job Duties:
Provide individualized and small-group support to students with intellectual and developmental disabilities participating in Vandal QUEST coursework, campus activities, and individualized learning opportunities Assist students in understanding assignments, course expectations, and instructional content while promoting increasing independence Support students in implementing learning strategies such as organization, note-taking, study skills, and time management Facilitate student participation in university classes, campus events, and student life opportunities Assist students in developing social communication, self-advocacy, and independent living skills Collaborate with Vandal QUEST staff, faculty, school district partners, and community members to support student success Monitor and communicate observations regarding student engagement, participation, and progress to program staff Facilitate co-learning and support opportunities with traditionally-enrolled peers (e.g., practicum experiences)Required Experience:
Experience working with children or young adults with disabilities Experience delivering instructionRequired Education:
Associate Degree; two years of experience working with children or young adults with disabilities may substitute for an Associates DegreeRequired Other:
