This part-time position plays a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they have a positive and inclusive educational experience. The ideal candidate will work closely with special education teachers and other staff to provide individualized assistance and facilitate a supportive learning environment. Responsibilities
  • Assist special education teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students in academic and social skills.
  • Help students with daily living skills, including personal hygiene, feeding, and mobility as needed.
  • Monitor and document student progress, behaviors, and interactions, reporting any concerns to the supervising teacher.
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and parents to promote a collaborative learning environment.
  • Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom activities tailored to meet students' needs.
  • Support students during transitions between classes, lunch, and other activities to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education.
  • Maintain a positive, nurturing, and respectful atmosphere conducive to learning. Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in special education or a related field is preferred. Requires two years of college, an AA degree, or successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment (Praxis Exam).
  • Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, staff, and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
  • Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of special education laws and practices is a plus.
  • Must pass background checks and any required training or certification relevant to the role.
  • Availability to work 5.
5 hours per day during the school year. This is an "at will" position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The employment "at will" policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and approved by the Board of Trustees of District 411.
