This part-time position plays a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they have a positive and inclusive educational experience. The ideal candidate will work closely with special education teachers and other staff to provide individualized assistance and facilitate a supportive learning environment. Responsibilities
- Assist special education teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students in academic and social skills.
- Help students with daily living skills, including personal hygiene, feeding, and mobility as needed.
- Monitor and document student progress, behaviors, and interactions, reporting any concerns to the supervising teacher.
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and parents to promote a collaborative learning environment.
- Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom activities tailored to meet students' needs.
- Support students during transitions between classes, lunch, and other activities to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education.
- Maintain a positive, nurturing, and respectful atmosphere conducive to learning. Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in special education or a related field is preferred. Requires two years of college, an AA degree, or successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment (Praxis Exam).
- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, staff, and families.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
- Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of special education laws and practices is a plus.
- Must pass background checks and any required training or certification relevant to the role.
