This full-time position involves supporting students with special needs, specifically those exhibiting behavioral challenges. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with teachers and other staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the academic and social development of all students. Responsibilities
  • Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, focusing on behavior management strategies.
  • Provide direct support to students in the classroom, during transitions, and in other school settings to help them navigate their educational experience.
  • Monitor student behavior and provide immediate intervention as needed to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and parents to develop and maintain effective behavior intervention plans.
  • Facilitate social skills development and support students in building positive relationships with peers.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior, and communicate regularly with the educational team regarding student needs and progress.
  • Participate in training and professional development to enhance skills in behavior management and special education practices.
  • Assist in the supervision of students during lunch, recess, and other non-classroom activities to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
  • Support the implementation of classroom routines and procedures to promote a structured and organized learning environment.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere that encourages student engagement and participation. Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Requires two years of college, an AA degree, or successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment (Praxis Exam).
  • Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs or behavioral challenges, is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of behavior management techniques and strategies for supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take direction from teachers and special education staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Physical ability to assist students as needed, including lifting or moving students and equipment.
  • Background check clearance as required by school district policies.
