Erie is built on the strong foundation of the nationally accredited program at Erie Neighborhood House, a progressive social service agency in Chicago's West Town community. Located in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood, Erie opened in September 2005 serving 80 students in kindergarten and first grade. Currently the school has 415 students, grades Kindergarten through eighth. Erie is seeking to hire a Special Education Paraprofessional/ Junior Interventionist. The Special Education Paraprofessional's basic function is to assist the Special Education Teacher and General Education Teacher in reinforcing efforts with children with various disabilities, including behavioral disorders, autism, learning disabilities, and emotional disabilities, in accordance with the child's Individual Education Program (IEP). Because this is a part-time need, the remaining job duties include pulling small groups of students K-2 to reinforce foundational reading and math skills as prescribed by the academic interventionist and/or MTSS coordinator.
Paraprofessional Position Responsibilities:
Provides one-on-one tutoring, support, and supervision for student or students with disabilities Reinforces learning concepts taught in the general education classroom Enforces and monitor the Behavior Management system set up by the IEP team in coordination with the Special Education teacher, the General Education teacher, and Principal Serves as a one-on-one assistant as needed or indicated in students' IEPs Assists teacher in maintaining written records of students' behavior; keeps documentation of IEP goals and objectives; keeps written documentation with students' parents Accompanies students and teachers on class field trips Attends and participates in workshops and in service training/professional development, as necessary, to update job related skills Knows and uses school mission, philosophy, and values to direct daily work and decision-making Promotes a professional and respectful working environment
Junior Interventionist Position Responsibilities:
Implements small group interventions in literacy and math as planned by academic interventionist Assists in progress monitoring of interventions in collaboration with academic interventionist and MTSS coordinator
Qualifications and Requirements:
Completion of an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university or at least 60 hours of college credit or successful completion of the ETS ParaPro assessment or the applicable ACT WorkKeys assessments Minimum of one year of work experience involving the care and supervision of children with disabilities. Prior work experience with children with behavioral disorders is highly desired Good knowledge of the characteristics of students with various disabilities, good knowledge of English grammar and spelling, good knowledge of basic mathematics Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred Ability to work with students with various disabilities, age 5- 14 years of age; ability to follow written and oral instructions and direction; ability to complete and maintain basic written reports Work effectively with special education teacher, classroom teacher and other school staff.
