Title:
Library Media Center Paraprofessional - 0.5 FTE (part-time) Crystal Lake School District 47 currently has an opening for a Library Media Center (LMC) Paraprofessional, 0.5 Part Time). This position provides instructional and other support services in various classroom settings to students under the supervision of a teacher or other professional staff member. This position will require the paraprofessional to support academic, behavioral, language and/or physical needs. This position may include assisting/monitoring student(s) with toileting and other physical needs - this includes providing physical assistance to a student during the act of toileting while in the toileting location (see toileting definition below)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with teachers and students to develop knowledge needed to use library materials and organization Manage the circulation and storage of library media center materials Supervise students under the direction of the library media specialist Enter and update catalog and patron information into the LMC database Process, repair, and maintain books and periodicals Provide assistance in the instruction of information literacy and the use of appropriate technologies Assist in the use of library media center's hardware, software, and related technologies, including the circulation and cataloging programs (i.e. maintaining IPad carts, and resetting student passwords, etc.) Prepare correspondence, reports, bibliographies, and requisitions requested by the school library media specialist Assist in the preparation of instructional materials, exhibits, and displays Assist with annual inventories and the withdrawal of materials Train and coordinate volunteers as needed Enter technology service requests Participate in work-related support training and activities Help maintain an attractive and inviting library media center environment Promote a positive relationship with students, staff, and the community Report to the library media specialist Communicate (verbal or written) with parents as directed by teacher, administration and related service staff Attend ongoing training as needed Assist in implementation of test accommodations/modifications during test administration Assist student(s) to complete lesion activities, assignments and assessments Assist/monitor student(s) with toileting and other physical needs - this includes providing physical assistance to a student during the act of toileting while in the toileting location (see toileting definition below) CPI Certification encouraged and will be provided by District 47 SKILLS
AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Valid ISBE Paraprofessional License or Short Term Approval Work with teachers and students to develop knowledge needed to use library materials and organization Knowledge and willingness to learn appropriate use of technology Working knowledge of the "Windows" operating system Working knowledge of district computer system Willingness to learn the library system Must have a desire to work with students Excellent organization skills Effective communication skills Self-motivator Multi-tasker Understand and follow oral and written instructions Maintain confidentiality of students and their records
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical requirements include sitting, standing, bending, walking, and lifting equipment and materials Demonstrate high levels of flexibility, positive attitude, patience, sense of humor, perseverance, tenacity and concentration. Ability to work in a fast-paced and busy environment Definition of toileting: Due to a child's disability or medical condition, the para must provide physical assistance to a student during the act of toileting while in the toileting location. (examples: removing all undergarments, wiping, physically assisting onto and off the toilet area) Walking a child to the bathroom or providing supervision while in the bathroom which does not require physical contact would not be defined as toileting.
