Job Description

Reports to Lead Teacher Supervisor, Executive Director Minimum education and experience
Required:
Must be at least 19 years old High School Diploma or GED Transcripts/Diploma must be provided at time of hire.
Knowledge, Skills & Other Abilities:
A. Exhibit evidence of familiarity, understanding and agreement with developmentally appropriate practices for young children. B. Ability to express understanding of, build positive relationships with young children, and ability to communicate well with parents, staff and community. C. Ability to develop positive relationships with team members. D. Possess organizational skills. E. Possess basic computer skills, including word processing and website navigation.
Assistant Teacher Job Responsibilities:
A. Assists the Lead Teacher Supervisor in the Creative Curriculum, meeting the needs and interests of the children. B. Participate in an ongoing assessment using Teaching Strategies Gold to plan appropriate learning experiences, and determine if each individual child is making progress. C. Maintain child supervision in all activities. Ensuring an educational environment, which is safe, healthy, well-arranged, enriching and conducive to maximum overall development of each child. D. Assists in Conducting the required number of formal conferences (2/year) each child's parent(s) to ensure maximum benefit of the early childhood experiences for the child and family. E. Engages in mutually respectful, positive, goal-oriented relationships with others. F. Following classroom schedules. G. Makes the necessary changes for optimal self-regulation to lead by example through internalizing the powers and skills of Conscious Discipline. H. Understand and implement the age appropriate ERS. I. Assists with nap/quiet time. (cleaning, supervising children who are awake) J. Follows daily center schedule is followed in classroom. Be flexible with changes. K. Ensure all paperwork/display/child work and classroom binders updated when required. L. Store cell phones out of sight, sound and reach of children. (no phones in ratio) M. Update Tadpoles as necessary. Daily Pictures for Each child sent in by 2:30 PM N. Other responsibilities assigned by Lead Teacher Supervisor and or Director(s). Classroom Essential duties Ensure a safe and healthy environment at all times by monitoring child areas for hazards or sanitation problems and correcting problems immediately or removing children from hazard until it can be corrected Provide appropriate adult supervision for all children at all times (children are NEVER to be left alone or permitted to leave the classroom without an adult). Always knowing how many children are under your supervision. Provide a stimulating, cognitively challenging classroom environment that encourages exploration and experimentation for children of varying ability levels Provide experiences and training to help children develop and practice good health/safety habits Develop and follow a daily schedule that incorporates good early childhood practices (balance of child/teacher initiated activities, active and passive, etc) and accommodates center needs for shared-use areas Plan and execute appropriate learning experiences indoors and outside in accordance with the curriculum provided for that group Provide math activities (transitions, routines, outdoor play, etc) throughout every day Provide language and literacy activities (transitions, routines, outdoor play, etc) throughout every day. Evaluate and assess individual child progress at least bi-annually using Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold. Modify curriculum and activities to meet the needs of children as identified by child evaluation and assessment Develop a cooperative working relationship with families by frequent communicate either by phone, email, written note, or personal conversation Maintain accurate and timely records of accidents, illnesses, medication, attendance, observations, assessments, and family conferences Meet all regulatory requirements including annual training, skills, classroom arrangement, etc. Cooperate with other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of the center Attend staff and parent meetings as scheduled. Maintains accurate records of children's attendance and meal counts Submits required reports in a timely manner. Maintains appropriate, accurate records on each child with emphasis on the child's response to developmental activities and his/her progress toward prescribed individualized goals. Completes Health/Safety Checklist, rotating with Lead Teacher Supervisor, Lead Qualified Teacher, Assistant Teacher, Director(s), and Board Member(s). Other duties and tasks Assist in maintaining center appearance internally and externally Maintain common supply areas in a neat orderly fashion, notifying the director of materials that need to be ordered or re-ordered. Notify Executive Director as soon as possible in the case of absence or lateness Interact with colleagues, families, and center visitors in a pleasant, professional manner Enroll in Gateway's. Complete and report 20 clock hours of approved child care related training per year.
Physical Requirements:
Be able to lift 30 pounds Be able to bend, stoop or kneel to achieve children's eye-level Be able to sit on the floor and/or child-sized chairs Be able to spend at least 1 hour at a time outdoors throughout the year Be able to write notes, newsletter articles using standard English Complete an initial physical examination and TB Risk Assessment upon hire as required by state licensing Any other duties as assigned
Pay:
$16.00 - $18.25 per hour
