Job Description

Visit School Website Catholic Schools Search The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools serve more than 40,000 students in 150+ elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties. It is one of the largest private school systems in the United States. Its schools have received 96 Blue Ribbon awards from the U.S. Department of Education over the past 10 years. The teacher aide assists school personnel in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Chicago. The teacher aide is hired by and is directly accountable to the principal. The teacher aide agrees to abide by the established policies and procedures of the Archdiocese of Chicago, as well as the policies and procedures of the local school. The principal will determine the specific assignment of the school aide. The teacher aide cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the school aide will include but are not limited to:
  • Accepting position-related duties directed by the principal which will facilitate the overall operation of the school program.
  • Following established procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of the students.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and discretion regarding school and classroom matters.
  • Attending faculty and staff meetings when required by the principal.
  • Assumes position assigned by the principal.
  • Follows directions of the classroom teacher to which the aide is assigned.
  • Supervises and/or assists students throughout the day.
  • Performs clerical duties as needed and directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Circulates and offers assistance to students who are struggling with the material, either referred by the teacher or based on observation.
  • Monitors students during whole group activity, making sure that students are on task.
  • Helps keep the classroom neat, clean, and orderly. Follows basic sanitation procedures.
  • Interacts with students by engaging them in conversation throughout the day.
  • Helps to arrange and display student work.
  • Helps to arrange displays of learning materials.
  • Follows procedures to ensure the safety and health of the students.
The principal assigns specific tasks essential to the function of the position.
Requirements:
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must meet compliance of Safe Environment requirements.
  • Must have respect for the Catholic faith.
The Archdiocese of Chicago offers a comprehensive total rewards package to include competitive compensation and benefit programs. Information about our benefit programs is available here . This position has an annualized salary range of $15.00 - $20.00. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on many factors including but not limited to: relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
