Job Description

A paraprofessional with Pleasant Valley School District #62 supports both students and teachers by providing instructional, behavioral, and supervisory assistance to ensure a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment for all students. The roles and responsibilities of a paraprofessional will differ, in some cases significantly, depending on the grade level and classroom type. This job description is for a paraprofessional in a Behavior Classroom at our Intermediate School. Qualifications & Skills Must hold a valid Illinois Paraprofessional (PARA) or Short-Term PARA license. Experience working with children and/or in an educational setting is preferred. Ability to follow and enforce rules, policies, and procedures. Demonstrate consistent attendance and punctuality, as this role is critical to maintaining student support and safety. Must be able to pass a background check. Ability to stand/walk for extended periods, lift at least 25 lbs. and respond quickly to student needs. Job Duties & Responsibilities Embrace and help grow the mission of Pleasant Valley which is to "engage, inspire, and empower each student towards academic excellence and citizenship". Implement teacher-designed lessons and accommodations with fidelity. Prepare educational materials and instructions for daily curriculum. Provide instructional support under the direction of a certified classroom teacher. Support implementation of IEP goals, accommodations, and behavior intervention plans as directed by certified staff including the classroom teacher and district Behavior Team. Use positive behavior supports and de-escalation strategies to address student behavior. Build positive, supportive relationships with students using a trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach. Support students exhibiting significant behavioral and emotional needs. Help ensure a safe environment during escalated situations, following district protocols. Maintain awareness of student triggers and escalation patterns. Assist in implementing crisis prevention and intervention strategies. Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, recess and other school settings. Support development of accountability, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills. Maintain the positive, inclusive and safe learning environment that has been established. Other duties as assigned by administration.
Pay & Schedule Pay:
Starting at $18.00/hour. Opportunity for more based on experience.
