Job Description

One-on-One Instructional Aide - Life Skills Support North Vermillion Jr./Sr. High School is seeking a compassionate, patient, and dependable instructional aide to support a high-needs Life Skills student. This position includes working in general education classrooms during the majority of the school day while also providing direct one-on-one support to a high-needs Life Skills student for approximately one hour daily. Responsibilities Assist teachers and students within general education classrooms Provide individualized support and supervision for a high-needs Life Skills student Support the student academically, behaviorally, socially, and emotionally Help implement accommodations, behavior plans, and instructional supports as directed by teachers and special education staff Maintain a calm, patient, and professional demeanor during escalated behaviors or challenging situations Assist with redirection, de-escalation, and maintaining a safe learning environment Build positive relationships with students and staff Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and services Collaborate with classroom teachers, Life Skills staff, administrators, and support personnel Preferred Qualities Patience, flexibility, and strong interpersonal skills Ability to remain calm under pressure Experience working with students with behavioral or special education needs preferred Ability to handle escalated behaviors in a safe and supportive manner Dependability, consistency, and willingness to work as part of a team Positive attitude and student-centered mindset Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required Ability to pass all required background checks Additional training or experience working with students with disabilities is preferred This position plays an important role in supporting student success and helping provide a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
