Full Job Description Hours:
FT is up to 40 hours per week; hours may vary based on child-staff ratios and business needs.
Position Overview:
The Assistant Teacher plays a vital role in supporting the Lead Teacher in creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment for young children. This position involves implementing lesson plans, facilitating classroom activities, and fostering positive relationships with students and families. The Assistant Teacher will work closely with the Lead Teacher to promote developmental goals and ensure compliance with state licensing and educational standards.
Classroom Duties:
Assist in implementing weekly lesson plans that align with developmental goals and state standards, focusing on skills such as colors, shapes, numbers, letter recognition, personal hygiene, and physical development through engaging activities like arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and group reading. Support ongoing assessments and observations of each student's progress, helping to maintain accurate portfolios per company standards, and addressing any concerns with the Lead Teacher. Communicate effectively with parents, assisting in conducting bi-annual conferences to discuss student progress, goals, and strategies for home support. Ensure compliance with Indiana State Licensing requirements, CACFP, and Paths to Quality guidelines and procedures. Help maintain a clean, organized, and tour-ready classroom environment, ensuring all necessary supplies are available.
Leadership and Relationship Building:
Foster nurturing and supportive relationships with students, enhancing their emotional development through positive interactions and guidance. Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to mentor and guide classroom practices while promoting teamwork within the classroom. Support the Lead Teacher in building self-confidence in each student by recognizing individual strengths and encouraging active participation and social engagement with peers. Assist in establishing and maintaining strong relationships with families and the community, promoting parent engagement and involvement in the classroom.
Non-Classroom Responsibilities:
Attend special events, staff meetings, and parent engagement programs, contributing to a positive team environment. Demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, and a positive attitude while accepting guidance and direction from the Lead Teacher. Adhere to all company policies and procedures to foster a collaborative and effective work environment.
Qualifications:
HS Diploma (or equivalency) required; CDA (or willingness to work toward CDA) preferred. Proven experience in early childhood education, with a strong understanding of classroom support roles. Reliable transportation required; valid driver's license preferred. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Must pass background checks, drug screening, TB test, and physical exam. Must be 18 years or older (per Indiana state licensing requirements). CPR and First Aid certifications required.
Physical Requirements:
Able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted. Capable of standing for long periods, sitting on the floor, crawling, squatting, and stooping. Proficient verbal communication and conventional hearing abilities. Ability to handle objects, tools, and controls with hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms. Must have near and far vision, color perception, and focus adjustment capabilities. Duties may involve travel and exposure to extreme temperatures during events or assignments. Willingness to assist with cleaning tasks, including sweeping, shoveling, salting, and trash removal.
