Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team at Poage Elementary School as a Special Education Instructional Aide. This full-time position involves supporting students with diverse learning needs in a positive and inclusive environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and other staff members to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and provide assistance to students in their academic and social development. Responsibilities Assist the special education teacher in implementing lesson plans and instructional activities tailored to meet the needs of students with disabilities. Provide one-on-one and small group support to students in various subjects, helping to reinforce learning concepts and skills. Monitor and document student progress, behaviors, and achievements, and communicate findings to the teaching staff. Support students in developing social skills and appropriate behaviors, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment. Assist with classroom management and organization, ensuring a safe and supportive learning atmosphere. Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to create and adapt instructional materials and strategies. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to special education. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to all school policies and procedures. Assist with personal care needs of students as required, including feeding, toileting, and mobility support. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in special education or related field preferred. Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed. Ability to adapt to changing situations and respond to the unique needs of each student. Basic computer skills and familiarity with educational technology. Certification or training in CPR and First Aid is a plus. Must pass background checks and comply with all state and federal regulations regarding employment in a school setting.
