VI. JOB SUMMARY
Assist Teachers with daily child development instructional practices, maintains health and safety practices, and ensures the implementation of high-quality early childhood educational services to children and families. Embodies the mission of BGCAP through a Whole Family Approach lens.
VII. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strong organizational skills. 5. Responsible for assisting the Teacher(s) in planning and implementing the research-based curricula children's daily activities. 6. In the absence of Head Start Teacher, will assume responsibility of the classroom. 7. Participates in bus monitoring activities as scheduled. 8. Helps maintain healthy and safe learning environments and practices. 9. Assists with serving meals to the children and eats with the children for Family Style Dining. 10. Participates in professional development as required for each level to improve performance and to expand personal knowledge of child development, interdisciplinary practices, and family-centered services. 11. Conducts home visits and parent conferences with families to ensure high-quality services through a Whole Family Approach lens. 12. Maintain sanitary practices within the center. 13. Assists the program in the recruitment of children. 14. Develop a positive, collaborative relationship with families. 15. Encourages development, which enhances each child's strengths by building trust; fostering independence; encouraging self-control by setting clear consistent limits and having realistic expectations; and encouraging respect for the feelings and rights of others. 16. Promotes interaction and language use among children and between children and adults. 17. Supports emerging literacy and numeracy development through material and activities according to the developmental level of each child. 18. Must work collaboratively with all participating families to identify and continually access, either directly or through referral, services and resources that are responsive to each family's interests and goals. 19. Must provide either directly or through referrals to other local agencies opportunities for children and families to participate in family literacy service by:
  • Increasing family access to materials, services, and activities essential to family literacy development.
  • Assisting parents as adult learners to recognize and address their own literacy goals.
20. Demonstrates dependable, responsible behavior including teamwork. 21. Use positive guidance techniques and behaviors to help children act responsibly (i.e., consistent, kind, redirecting, and modeling). 22. Conducts developmentally appropriate activities that encourage a print-rich environment. 23. Responsible for generating non-Federal (in-kind) match for BGHS. Encourages volunteering by parents and community members. 24. Adheres to and fully understands the confidentiality agreement. 25. All positions in the child development program are considered child-sensitive and therefore must pass pre-employment drug screening and submit to random drug/alcohol testing throughout the school year. 26. Performs other duties, which may on occasion be requested by a Supervisor in order to ensure the safety and welfare of the children. Must have the mobility to bend, stretch, stoop, and be able to climb up and down stairs. 27. Teachers should be able to play with the children on the floor, work outdoors in any variety of weather and have visual and hearing capabilities that allow consistent supervision of children. 28. Teachers should be able to comprise and carry out lesson plans and developmentally appropriate instructional activities.

IX. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Preference is given to a Head Start parent or regular volunteer.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must have a CDA or be working toward a CDA within 2 years of hire.
  • Must have initial physical exam and negative TB skin test prior to employment; and a negative TB skin test every 2 years following date of hire.
  • Must possess a current driver's license; have a good driving record for five (5) years; and have a vehicle available for job duties.
  • Must have a telephone for job duties to contact the center and Supervisor.
  • Must not have been convicted of a sex crime, child abuse and/or neglect.
  • Must have CPR and first aid training as required.
  • Must have six (6) hours of required state approved training within three (3) months of employment and a minimum of fifteen (15) additional hours of training each calendar year.
  • Must have Pediatric Head Trauma training every 5 years.
Pay:
$14.96 - $18.50 per hour
