Teacher Assistant

Big Sandy Area Community Action Program is seeking qualified candidates for a Head Start Teacher Assistant for Model City Head Start in Pikeville.

Position Summary :

The Teacher Assistant will assist the teacher to provide developmentally appropriate activities to promote health, nutrition, and education for preschool age children.

Job Duties and details:

• Helping children with personal tasks
• Assisting teacher with records of daily attendance and data collection
• Maintaining a safe and orderly environment for preschool children
• Instructing children in the practices of personal cleanliness, self-care, good manners and safety procedures

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required
• Child Development Associate or willingness to obtain preferred
• Knowledge of typical behaviors/expectations of three to five-year-old children
• Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds and the ability to communicate verbally with children to ensure safe supervision and appropriate instruction
• Physically capable of interacting with young children through running, chasing, bending, stooping, lifting, climbing, and standing
• Well-developed interpersonal skills
• Valid driver's license
• Hire subject to Head Start regulations and agency policy on background checks and drug screening Wage
• $11.19 with High School Diploma
• $12.26 with Childhood Development Associate credential
• $13.84 with Associate Degree in Early Childhood Benefits
• Paid tuition, mileage, books, and $100 supply fee for Early Childhood classes
