Aug 7, 2026 Job Description Join us for the 2026-2027 school year! ZMS is seeking a compassionate and dependable Special Education Instructional Health Assistant to support students in a middle school setting. This position assists students with academic, behavioral, and health-related needs to ensure they can fully access their educational program. The ideal candidate demonstrates patience, flexibility, and a strong commitment to supporting students with diverse learning and medical needs.
Responsibilities:
Assist students the daily instructional activities under the supervision of a certified teacher. Provide academic support in small group and one-on-one settings Support implementation of IEP accommodations and behavior plans Assist with health-related tasks as directed by the school nurse or administration Help maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment Monitor and document student progress as directed Support students during transitions, lunch, and other school activities At ZMS, our mission is to empower students who embrace diversity, value learning, and positively impact their community. Position Details Hours:
6.5 hours per day (plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch)
Contract Length:
183 days per year 170 student instructional days 4 holidays 7 planning days 2 extended days
Contract Adjustments:
Contracted days will be prorated based on the start date

10-month employee on the classified pay schedule Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
Must meet one of the following: 48 college semester hours An Associate's Degree OR High school diploma plus a passing score on the Paraeducator Assessment Exam.
Documentation:
Candidates must provide proof of educational requirements to HR upon recommendation for hire. Compensation & Experience Credit 2025-2026 Pay Scale Starting Pay (Step 0): $16.46/hour Experienced Pay (Step 10): $20.26/hour We value experience! Previous experience working with students, intervention systems, and small-group instruction is strongly desired. New hires may bring up to 10 years of comparable, full-time, verified experience. The hired applicant is responsible for submitting the BCPS Verification of Experience Form to prior employers for completion and return to HR.
Payroll Note:
While this is an hourly position, the salary is distributed via a year-long contract over 10 months. You will receive 4 paychecks at the end of June.
Salary Formula:
