Assistant Teacher (Primary Classroom)

Head of School La Printaniere Montessori School seeks a Primary Assistant for the 2026/2027 school year. Under the direction of the Head of School, the candidate will assist the Lead Teacher in a mixed-age classroom of 3
- through 6-year-old students. Our school is located in Baton Rouge, LA and has a community of around 80 students ages 3
- 11 years.
For over 40 years, we have provided an authentic Montessori education in a private, independent, child-centered environment. Our school is accredited by the Louisiana Montessori Association and approved by the Louisiana Department of Education.

$25,000 Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred Commitment to the core values of La Printaniere, which include respect, integrity, inclusivity, and community Flexible team player with a "can-do" attitude Passion for working with children Potential opportunity to pursue Montessori teacher training, pending invitation from Head of School, funded by La Printaniere Essential Duties & Responsibilities Ensure the safety and well-being of students in the classroom Maintain and / or develop classroom discipline with patience, compassion, and understanding Cultivate personal knowledge of Montessori education and Positive Discipline philosophy Maintain and / or develop classroom discipline, snack preparation, materials preparation, field trips, and group activities, including but not limited to reading, music, art, etc. Maintain positive and appropriate communication / relationships with parents, staff, and children Support the work of the Lead Teacher(s) by assisting in the preparation of activity and project materials, maintaining the inventory of the classroom, record keeping, and supervising student work spaces Participate in before-care, after-care, lunch, recess, carpool coverage, and / or parent education nights, as availability allowsAttend required staff meetings Attend all regularly scheduled parent conferences, education meetings, and social functions Physical Requirements and Work Environment The Primary Assistant can expect to: Work in a highly active, dynamic environment alongside a Lead Teacher and approximately 24 students Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment, with periods of time outdoors Supervise groups of students and regularly engage with parents, staff, and visitors Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds Frequently transition from sitting on the floor and/or low chairs to standing
Compensation:
Employees are regularly paid on the 15th and the last day of each month for 10 months (August through May annually). Deductions from paychecks include all deductions required by law, federal and state taxes, social security, etc.
Hours:
8 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. from Monday through Friday (37.5 hours weekly), August
May Paid Holidays:
Labor Day- 1 work day Thanksgiving
- 5 work days Christmas
- 10 work days Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
- 1 work day Mardi Gras
- 4 work days Easter
- 6 work days
Leave:
Sick Leave
- 37.5 hours (totaling one week) of sick leave per school year. Sick leave is not cumulative from year to year. Employee wages shall be reduced in proportion to additional sick leave taken when the employee exceeds his or her allotted sick leave. Professional Leave
- 15 hours of professional leave to be used for professional development or personal days.
