Special Education Paraprofessional:

Key Requirements and Qualifications Certification:
Current, valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Louisiana in accordance with Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners requirements; may also require a qualifying score on the ParaPro Assessment in accordance with Louisiana Department of Education guidelines; CPR and First Aid certification required.
Education:
Completion of an approved practical nursing program; High School Diploma required, with additional coursework or training in education or special education preferred.
Experience:
Prior experience in nursing, preferably in pediatrics or school health, and/or experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.
Content Knowledge:
Knowledge of basic nursing practices, medication administration, and student health needs; understanding of IEP implementation, accommodations, and supporting students with disabilities in an educational setting; familiarity with school health policies and procedures.
Skills:
Ability to perform delegated medical tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse; ability to assist with instructional support as directed by the teacher; strong written and oral communication skills; ability to maintain accurate health and student records; strong organizational skills; ability to collaborate with teachers, healthcare providers, and families; and ability to support a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment.
