Hourly, non-exempt Role Overview At Illuminate Montessori, Assistant Teachers are essential partners in creating a peaceful, purposeful, and joyful learning environment. Assistant Teachers support the Lead Teacher in maintaining the prepared environment, guiding children with respect, and contributing to a strong, collaborative school community. This role is ideal for an educator who enjoys working closely with children, values collaboration, and is excited to grow in Montessori practice. Assistant Teachers help protect each child's independence, concentration, dignity, and safety while supporting the daily rhythms of the classroom. This position is an hourly, non-exempt role. Every Assistant Teacher is responsible for accurately reporting all hours worked using the Illuminate Montessori time and attendance system. Minimum Hiring Requirements Candidates must:
Meet all Massachusetts EEC requirements for Teacher Qualified in the applicable age group, such as Infant/Toddler or Preschool Complete and maintain all required EEC trainings, including but not limited to: First Aid & CPR Certification EEC Essentials 2.0 Certificate Successfully pass all required background record checks, including BRC Demonstrate warmth, professionalism, reliability, and a willingness to learn Assistant Guide Core Responsibilities Support Montessori Pedagogy and the Prepared Environment Maintain a clean, orderly, and developmentally appropriate prepared environment Complete classroom preparation work to ensure materials, routines, and the physical space are ready for children Engage children with warmth, respect, and joyful presence Foster independence, confidence, and self-regulation through respectful interactions Protect children's concentration and the Lead Teacher's presentation time through thoughtful redirection and calm classroom support Ensure constant active supervision of children Maintain safety and compliance with required ratios at all times Support daily routines, transitions, meals, rest time, toileting, and classroom care with consistency and professionalism Partner Through Communication and Collaboration Collaborate closely with the Lead Teacher to uphold consistent routines, expectations, and classroom norms Support the Lead Teacher in maintaining a peaceful, respectful, and high-functioning classroom environment Share notable student concerns, family updates, classroom needs, or safety issues promptly with the Lead Teacher Interact with parents positively during brief daily exchanges Communicate with professionalism, discretion, and care Build a Strong School Community Support classroom celebrations, community events, and school-wide initiatives that strengthen family engagement Assist in community outreach events, parent education opportunities, and broader school programming Treat common areas with the same care and respect as the classroom Contribute to a warm, welcoming, and collaborative school culture Model kindness, flexibility, and professionalism with children, families, and colleagues Embrace Growth and Self-Motivation Participate in staff meetings, one-on-one check-ins, and scheduled mentorship sessions Collaborate with the Lead Teacher and Director to problem-solve classroom challenges in a constructive and solution-focused manner Welcome feedback from Lead Teachers, Montessori Mentors, and the Director Implement feedback promptly and thoughtfully Demonstrate a growth mindset by engaging in ongoing professional development and Montessori learning Reflect regularly on personal strengths, areas for improvement, and professional goals aligned with Illuminate Montessori's Assistant Guide Core Competencies Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is warm, dependable, calm, and eager to learn.
