GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Special Education Instructional Assistant provides instructional and behavioral support to students with disabilities in general education, vocational, and specialized classroom settings. The paraprofessional works under the direct supervision of licensed teachers and special education staff to assist students in accessing curriculum, participating in classroom activities, and implementing supports outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Support students in general education, special education, and vocational classrooms to promote access to instruction and participation in learning activities. Assist classroom teachers and special educators with whole-class, small group, and individualized instruction. Provide inclusion support to ensure students with disabilities can meaningfully access curriculum and classroom activities. Work with individual students or small groups to support academic progress, organizational skills, and completion of classwork or homework. Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) under the supervision of certified staff. Collect observational and instructional data related to student progress, behavior, and classroom participation as directed by supervising staff. Communicate and collaborate with special education teachers, general education teachers, counselors, and related service providers regarding student progress. Assist with organizational tasks, documentation, and classroom materials as needed. Provide supervision and support for students in assigned classes, X-block groups, or other settings as required. Maintain confidentiality regarding student and personnel matters. Follow and reinforce classroom management practices and school discipline policies. Perform other duties as assigned by supervising staff or administration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of two years of study at an institution of higher education or an Associate's degree. Demonstrated ability to support classroom instruction under the direction of licensed teachers and special education staff. Ability to work effectively with students with diverse learning needs, including students with disabilities. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and families. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and school policies. Willingness to participate in professional development and ongoing training related to supporting students with disabilities and inclusive instructional practices. Must possess a valid Massachusetts driver's license and/or a US Passport.
