HAMPSHIRE REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
CLASSROOM
PARA EDUCATOR
DESCRIPTION:
The classroom paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher by providing instructional support to students identified as needing support and related work as necessary to meet the specific needs of the students.
SUPERVISION
Works under the supervision of certified school personnel and under the general supervision of the principal. The performance of these functions may require the exercise of independent judgment of the Classroom Paraprofessional in a range of instructional, supervision and other assigned duties. Evaluated by the Principal or designee.
JOB ENVIRONMENT
Typical school-site environment (classroom, hallway, cafeteria, etc).
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Support
  • Assists professional personnel in instructional assignments for students with special needs in all subjects areas at all levels
  • Sets up work areas and prepares educational materials
  • Assists students working on individualized and specialized programs
  • Assists both individual and small groups of students in both instructional and social situations within the school setting in a variety of subject areas.
  • General supervision of students as assigned within the school setting
  • Monitors indoor and outdoor recreational activities
  • Performs appropriate record keeping for assigned tasks such as maintaining student progress records, behavior modification checklists/plans, and developmental profiles.
  • Assists with the evaluation of student progress
  • Communicates with appropriate school staff about individual student needs while maintaining confidentiality General Expectations
  • Maintains the trust and confidence of students
  • Works independently with general guidance
  • Maintains cooperative relationships with students and adults
  • Manages time to accomplish multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Operates standard office equipment including computers, email, and copier
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum high school diploma.
  • Experience working with young people both with and without disabilities.
  • Experience dealing with people with severe disabilities preferred.
  • Eligible to earn 7D license
  • Complete First Aid and CPR training Preferred
  • Complete PCA training Preferred District CORI Check required before employment begins Federal Fingerprint Check required before employment begins
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Good general health.
  • Alert, physically assertive and mobile at all times.
  • Lift, push, or pull 50 pounds as required;
  • Mobility to regularly walk, stand, stoop, reach, bend and occasionally run.
