Program Assistant, Temporary Description:
ArtsWorcester is hiring a Program Assistant for our Future Arts Workers (FAW) program. The Program Assistant will serve as the right hand to the Kirby Education and Outreach Manager (Manager), assisting with FAW and other gallery responsibilities as needed. This role is ideal for a responsible, detail-oriented college student or young professional interested in gaining arts education, gallery, or museum experience. Schedule:
This position requires in-person presence at ArtsWorcester every Wednesday from roughly 3-8pm during August-June. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required based on program needs. Some work can bepleted virtually, such as weekly FAW workshop prep. Key Responsibilities:
Future Arts Workers (FAW) Assist Manager in recruiting the FAW cohort, which includes promoting the program at Worcester public high schools, evaluating applications, and conducting follow-up interviews. Assist Manager with any and all classroom activities every Wednesday from August-June, roughly 3-8pm. Order and fetch dinner for the FAW, staff, and any visiting guests, from a roster of different local restaurants. Maintainanized records of and receipts of food orders. Set up tables, seats, and audio-visual equipment. Serve as key exhibition production staff for FAW's annual exhibition. Assist with ongoing and year-end evaluation from student participants. Research and produce year-end resource manuals for student participants. Draft and send monthly newsletter to participants' families with program updates and photos. Exhibition Production for Winter/Spring 2027 Assist Associate Director and ArtsWorcester staff with general exhibition production tasks, including: Staffing artwork drop-off/pick-up processes. Patching and spot-painting walls, assisting with gallery and corporate installations, installing labels, and producing auxiliary materials (binders, name tags, wall maps, price lists, unique labels and signage as needed). At closure, de-installing artwork, moving pedestals and artwork into storage in ananized manner, removing wall hardware, and patching and spot-painting. Additional tasks as assigned by the Associate Director. Gallery Reception, as needed Open and close galleries on occasional Sunday afternoons, depending on staffing needs. Turn on or set up specific artworks as needed. Wee visitors and orient them to the current exhibitions. Assist with art sales, program inquiries, and general customer service needs. Relay to weekday staff any queries or needs or problems that arise. Assist at evening gallery opening receptions (greeting visitors and handing out nametags, helping with drink orders, circulating amongst guests). Additional responsibilities may include assisting with artist membership meetups and gallery receptions, or program needs unforeseen but within your hours and current capacity. A SIMPLE IRA
is provided, with ArtsWorcester providing an annual contribution equal to 2% of the employee's gross salary, regardless of whether or not the employee makes any contribution. T are no other benefits. This position is not exempt. Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent Valid U.S. Driver's License and reliable access to a car is essential for picking up weekly food orders (please note: ArtsWorcester will reimburse mileage) Passion for contemporary art Desire to learn about the operations of a non-profit arts gallery Commitment to social and racial equity in the arts Punctuality and dependability Outstanding levels ofanization and attention to detail Proficiency with Google Suite, Canva, and Microsoft Suite A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time Ability to frequently bend, lean, and kneel Ability to lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds Preferred Qualifications:
Holding or working towards a Bachelor's degree in art history, fine arts, arts education, education, or related field Previous experience working with teens/in an educational setting Experience using Mailchimp (or desire to learn)
