JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Humanities and Arts Department invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor in Modern European History for the 2026-2027 academic year, beginning in August 2026. We especially invite scholars working on Europe since 1700, deploying transregional, international, comparative, and/or global perspectives and methods. We are particularly interested in scholars with a demonstrated record of teaching who can contribute to the department's thematic areas of focus on gender, sexuality, and women's studies; and/or histories of science, technology, and medicine.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job responsibilities will include: Teaching 6 courses and 2 capstone inquiry seminars in History and International and Global Studies.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in History is preferred; terminal degree in other relevant fields will be considered. Candidates should have earned their PhD by August 15, 2026. A track record of successful classroom teaching at the university level. The ability to work creatively and collaboratively across disciplines with faculty, staff, and students of various experience levels. As part of your initial application, please submit: A cover letter that describes your interests, values, and practices as a scholar and teacher. Current CV including academic, teaching, and professional experience. The names and contact information of at least three references. We will ask for letters of reference, a scholarly writing sample, and teaching portfolio for short-listed candidates only. Application review will begin on June 20, 2026, and continue until the position is filled. We anticipate concluding this search by August 1, 2026. The university is not able to offer visa support for this position.
Compensation:
$70,000 - $78,000 per year. Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity.
