Head Start Assistant Teacher/Content Specialist II or III (based on qualifications)

This position is responsible for assisting teaching staff in the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate learning activities for preschool age children enrolled in a center-based classroom. Basic duties include assisting the teacher in managing the classroom, student supervision and care, preparation of daily lesson plans, maintaining accurate records, completing reports and performing other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher and operations manager. There is an immediate, 10-month position opening in Oakland, MD, but applications can be reviewed for 6 months for similar positions throughout Garrett County. This is a permanent, full-time position with a Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 3:30 pm schedule with an additional 30 minutes paid from 3:30 - 4:00 pm. With an hourly rate of pay ranging from $15.85 to $25.56 per hour based on experience, this position also offers paid holidays, vacation days and sick days prorated based upon hours worked. We provide a life insurance policy and, for employees working a minimum of 10 hours per week, we provide participation in the Maryland State Retirement and Pension system.

Minimum Qualifications:

HS Diploma or GED, must be 19 years old and be physically able to assist children in completing developmentally appropriate tasks. Preferred qualifications would be an Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education or related field with relevant coursework in Child Development or a Child Development Associate. The applicant should have at least one year experience working with preschool and/or infant and toddler age children.
