Job Purpose:
The Assistant Teacher at Midcoast Maine Community Action will support the Lead Teacher in delivering high-quality educational experiences to young children. This role involves assisting in the implementation of curriculum, fostering a nurturing and stimulating environment, and promoting the overall development and well-being of students.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and executing educational activities that align with the curriculum. Provide individual and group instruction to students, ensuring their engagement and understanding. Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment conducive to learning. Support students' social, emotional, and cognitive development through interactive and age-appropriate activities. Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to assess and document students' progress and development. Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding students' achievements and any concerns. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills. Assist in the preparation of educational materials and resources as needed. Uphold the policies and procedures of Midcoast Maine Community Action to ensure a high standard of care and education.
Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. An Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred.
Required Experience:
Experience working with young children in an educational or childcare setting. Familiarity with classroom management and early childhood development practices. Previous experience in a teaching assistant or similar role is advantageous.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with children, parents, and staff. Ability to assist in planning and implementing educational activities that promote cognitive and social development. Demonstrated patience and understanding when working with children of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Capability to work collaboratively with lead teachers and other staff members to support classroom objectives. Proficiency in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for children. Basic proficiency in using educational technology and software tools. Ability to follow instructions and adapt to changing classroom dynamics.
