Fashion Design & Sewing Instructor Assistant TI-STAF Farmington, MI Job Details Part-time | Contract From $15 an hour 9 hours ago Benefits Paid training Professional development assistance Flexible schedule Qualifications Teamwork Stitching Content creation Working with students Organizational skills Full Job Description Position Overview TI-STAF is seeking a creative, reliable, and hands-on Fashion Design & Sewing Instructor Assistant to support fashion education programs, sewing classes, workshops, and small-batch production projects. This role is ideal for someone passionate about fashion design, garment construction, and community-based creative education. The assistant will help teach beginner and intermediate students, support classroom activities, assist with garment production projects, and contribute to the growth of TI-STAF's fashion training programs. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Classroom Support Assist with teaching beginner and intermediate sewing and fashion design classes Help students learn sewing machine operation, garment construction, and basic pattern work Support classroom setup, demonstrations, and hands-on instruction Assist students during workshops and training sessions Production & Studio Support Assist with cutting, sewing, and garment preparation Support sample development and small-batch production projects Maintain sewing equipment and organize studio materials Help prepare supplies and fabrics for classes and workshops Assist the lead instructor in planning and executing curriculum tailored to various skill levels, from beginner to advanced sewing projects. Creative & Administrative Support Assist with fashion workshops, events, and community programs Support social media content creation (photos/videos of classes and projects) Help maintain a clean, organized, and professional studio environment Qualifications Basic to intermediate sewing and garment construction skills Familiarity with industrial or domestic sewing machines Interest in fashion design, apparel production, or creative education Strong communication and organizational skills Comfortable working with students and beginners Positive attitude and willingness to learn Assist the lead instructor in planning and executing curriculum tailored to various skill levels, from beginner to advanced sewing projects. Support classroom management by maintaining an organized, safe, and inclusive environment conducive to learning. Provide one-on-one tutoring and guidance to students during sewing projects, ensuring they understand techniques such as pattern making, stitching, and fabric selection.
Preferred Qualifications:
Fashion design or apparel-related education/training Pattern making and draping expertise Experience teaching or assisting in workshops/classes Social media or creative content experience Previous classroom experience involving lesson planning and working with students to achieve creative goals.
