Job Description
General Purpose The Classroom Paraprofessional shall carry out those duties and activities assigned which will ensure the effective operations of the class or activity to which they are assigned. In this role, the paraprofessional supports instruction aligned to the Newaygo County Career-Tech Center's Portrait of a Graduate competencies, reinforcing the development of students' perseverance, communication, critical thinking, adaptability, and empathy. Qualifications & Requirements High school graduate, preferably with some additional educational skills and training. Self-sufficient and require a minimum of supervision or assistance to aid in the care and education of students. Two years of work experience directly related to the program area (within the last five years). Physically capable of performing duties specific to the program area. Knowledge of the tools, equipment, tasks and safety procedures used in the assigned job area. Solid organizational and planning skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to work as a member of a team and contribute to the agency vision and goals. Able to demonstrate confidentiality in all matters. Positive leadership skills. Must complete and pass required criminal history check. Essential Duties (shall include, but are not limited to the following): To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reinforce Portrait of a Graduate competencies by supporting students in developing perseverance, communication, critical thinking, adaptability, and empathy during program activities. Assist during the lesson by helping students who may be having difficulty in understanding or in keeping up with the class. Assist by working with individual or small groups of students on follow-up activities. Assist by carrying out activities for an individual student or small group of students, under the supervision and direction of the classroom instructor. Prepare classroom materials, assist in the preparation of daily lesson plans, operate audiovisual equipment, make instructional charts, and other tasks assigned by the classroom instructor. Help with maintaining room inventory, recording attendance, typing, duplicating materials, filing materials, maintaining student records, creating documents, correcting student papers and other student assignments, and running errands for the classroom instructor. Assist with behavior and/or discipline of students. Attend building, staff and parent meetings, participate in parent conferences, perform housekeeping tasks, and comply with requests to call parents. Be responsible to aide the classroom instructor or supervise in the instruction and evaluation of students. Be responsible to aide in the direct organization and supervision of all classroom activities. Be responsible to help in the repair of all equipment and materials in the classroom. Provide feedback to the Classroom Instructor on supplies and equipment to promote the most cost effective and efficient program operation possible. Predictable/reliable attendance. Other Duties Act as a resource, if needed, to employees, students and the general public and visitors to the NC RESA. Possess knowledge of NC RESA's organization, mission, and philosophy. Perform other duties deemed appropriate by the Classroom Instructor or Administration. Relationships & Commitment The Classroom Paraprofessional shall be directly accountable to the CTC Assistant Principal and shall demonstrate commitment to the mission of the Newaygo County RESA through: Adherence to and enforcement of agency policies and administrative regulations.
