Classroom Paraprofessional 3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars 1941 Alamo Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49006 From $17.82 an hour - Full-time Kalamazoo Public Schools 131 reviews From $17.82 an hour - Full-time This vacancy is for the 2026-2027 School Year Classroom Paraprofessional Hillside Middle School KSP, Paraprofessional Hourly Rate $17.82 (Pay Rate for 2025 - 2026 School Year) 10 Month, Full-Time Scope of Responsibilities Works with middle school students, providing support to students in the instructional process and the behavior modification program. Performance Responsibilities 1. Supervises students during lunch, breakfast, and in hallways as they leave and return to the classroom. 2. Serves as a mentor to assigned students. Monitors their progress and participates in providing feedback on their progress to staff and parents. 3. Facilitates peer mediation for students. 4. Escorts students around the building in an effort to de-escalate them. 5. Provides redirection and support to students in an effort to keep them in school in lieu of suspension. 6. Communicates with students in a calm and firm manner. 7. Monitors lunch detention and provides support in behavior rooms. 8. Assists with emergency drills and monitors student traffic throughout the building. 9. Create and maintain bulletin boards in the halls. 10. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Must have at least a high school diploma or accredited equivalency and at least one of the following Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) qualifications: two years of study (60 credit hours) at an institution of higher learning. an associate degree or higher. passing scores in math, reading, and writing on the ACT Work Keys Assessment prior to June 1, 2017, or the Basic Skills Test of the Michigan Teacher Test for Certification; or passing score of at least 460 on the ETS (Education Testing Service) Paraprofessional Assessment. Demonstrated ability to build relationships with secondary at-risk students. Ability to speak clearly and express ideas clearly. Good personal appearance and grooming. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups. Ability to handle the physical requirements of the job: bending, lifting. Willingness to work with various students in the building. Ability to maintain necessary energy and composure to work successfully with students. Experience in positive behavior support strategies. Knowledge of word processing and computer equipment. Previous voluntary or paid experience working with at-risk youth. Evidence of a desirable work record (i.e., low absenteeism, good job performance, flexibility).
